Rare M-592 back pad survival kit issued to US Navy pilots and aircrew during the Second World War. The kit is in very good overall condition, with no breakage or significant wear. Original military markings remain present and legible. The name RODGERS is stencilled in black on the straps, possibly identifying its former owner. The set is incomplete but retains many scarce original components. Included items: Rare 10-inch short-pattern non-folding Case XX survival machete with original blade guard; M-565 mosquito head net and pair of cotton gloves, both unissued; Black plastic whistle made in the USA; Two of the original three Charms emergency ration packs; 25-foot cotton line and complete AN-L-2 fishing kit; Sharpening stone; Two empty drinking-water containers with original caps; Wrist compass with strap; ESM-1 signalling mirror; Original instruction booklet and several additional small accessories. Missing items: Flare launcher and flares; Contents of the first-aid compartments; Poncho; Magnifying lens; One ration pack. The variety and quality of the surviving contents make this an unusually displayable aviation survival set. The short Case XX machete with its original guard is a major highlight, supported by the compass, both water containers, two ration packs and numerous original accessories. The missing components are clearly listed so the buyer can assess the set accurately. Sold exactly as shown in the photographs.
